Corr strikes to rescue point

20 Feb

Barry Corr slid home an 80th minute equaliser to earn Southend a share of the spoils in an even contest against Torquay.
Corr silenced the Plainmoor crowd by sliding in at the back post to force home Ryan Hall’s drilled low centre.
Just seven minutes earlier, the home fans thought they had won it when Chris Zebroski somehow got a cross in for Billy Kee to convert from six yards.
Southend could even have won it late on, but substitute Kyle Asante’s shot hit the side netting. It was the 19-year-old’s first appearance in the league and his first game since returning from a 12-month injury layoff.
A useful point leaves Southend four points adrift of the play-off places with two games in hand over Gillingham in 7th place.
