FIVE first team players have been told their futures lie away from Roots Hall.
After meeting with several out-of-contract players last week, Paul Sturrock told the official website that Johnny Herd, Rhys Evans, Louie Soares, Miguel Comminges and Adam Bouzid will all be released when their contracts expire in June.
And others may still be out of the door as the Shrimpers boss looks to strengthen his side for a promotion push next year following a season of much-needed consolidation.
Herd will be fondly remembered amongst fans for the long throw that set up Peter Clarke’s equaliser at Stamford Bridge in January 2009. The rest of the released players did not make a significant impact on this club having all joined last summer with the exception of Comminges who signed in January.
The excellent form of Glenn Morris meant despite the occasional appearance, Rhys Evans could not make the number one spot his own. Louie Soares was first-choice on the wing at the beginning of the campaign but quickly became eclipsed by the emergence of Ryan Hall.
Comminges filled various holes to cover for injuries during the second half of the season and played very well at times. However, his fitness was not quite at the required level after a long time out of the game. Bouzid barely made a first team appearance.
All At Sea wishes all five the best the best of luck for the future.
