BLUES are close to completing the signing of striker Neil Harris on a three-year deal.
The signing of the 33-year-old was in doubt after the South London Press reported last week that he wanted to stay at Millwall and fight for his place.
But now Shrimpers boss Paul Sturrock has finally landed his top striker target.
Harris was born in Orsett and still has family in the Rayleigh area.
He has made more than 500 career appearances and is Millwall’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Supporters have been quick to praise the signing.
Tweets to the All At Sea twitter account have been positive.
Pete Searles said: “Good signing on a long contract. Real signal of intent. Always liked Harris too, will definitely get goals in League Two.”
Garry Smith said: “Great signing, good goalscoring record at higher level, local lad and showed good character bouncing back from cancer.”
Danny Brothers added: “That’s a class signing at this level.”
