THE ‘derby of convenience’ with Leyton Orient has been revived by this morning’s Carling Cup draw.
Southend will take on the O’s at Roots Hall during the week commencing August 8th.
The sides have encountered contrasting fortunes in recent seasons, with the O’s now a division above Southend under Russell Slade.
It will mean a return to Roots Hall for striker Alex Revell, who will have a point to prove after being publicly criticised by former chief executive Geoffrey King on his departure from Blues in 2009.
It should also add a bit of spice to an occasion that traditionally only attracts a small gate of around 3,000 people.
