CRAIG Easton has officially left Southend United after failing to agree a new contract.
The 32-year-old central midfielder captained Blues and helped steer the ship to calmer waters following the departure of almost the entire squad in the summer of 2010.
He deserves immense credit for his professionalism and for helping keep the squad together during a difficult time.
In addition to his hard work off the field, Easton also impressed on it, making 38 appearances and netting five times including a stunning strike against Chesterfield in January.
Unfortunately, he has failed to agree a new contract with the club, meaning he has now departed. He is expected to sign for Torquay United.
Following Easton’s departure, Chris Barker has been installed as the club’s new captain. New signing Neil Harris has been named as vice-captain.
