BLUES ended their short trip to Scotland with a scoreless draw against Scottish Division 1 side Raith Rovers.
Southend couldn’t break down their opponents for the second successive day. The best chance fell to sub Neil Harris late on, but after being put through on goal, his left foot shot was saved by David McGurn.
The Kirkcaldy outfit had their chances too, Daniel Bentley pulling off two smart second half saves to ensure he kept a clean sheet.
Southend fielded a young side, and front pairing Kyle Asante and Harry Crawford struggled against a resolute Raith backline.
Trialist Rohan Ricketts also appeared but offered little. AAS is led to believe a contract for the ex-Wolves man is now unlikely.
The most notable performances were that of Bentley and centre back Mark Phillips, who completed 90 minutes and looked very assured.
At the final whistle, both sides opted against a penalty shoot-out to the disappointment of both sets of fans.
The overall tournament was won by underdogs East Fife, who beat Dundee 1-0 in the final match following Southend’s game.
Southend continue their pre-season with a game against Ipswich on Friday night.
Southend: Bentley 7, Leonard 7, Phillips 8, Coughlan 7, Ricketts 6 (Hall 6), James-Lewis 6, N’diaye 6.5 (Woodyard 6), Sawyer 7 (Nesbitt 7), Asante 6 (Harris 7), Crawford 6.
