PAUL Sturrock is holding transfer talks with trialist Jean-Paul Kalala, fuelling speculation that one of the club’s existing midfielders may be on their way out of the club.
Last week it was revealed that Kane Ferdinand was recently the subject of an enquiry from Peterborough, and speculation has surrounded Anthony Grant since the turn of the year.
Kalala, a naturally defensive midfielder who spent time at Bristol Rovers and Yeovil in recent years, played for Blues against Braintree on Wednesday, and Sturrock is eager to get his signature ahead of the new campaign.
Blues are known to have a stretched budget, and with Sturrock already having prioritised new strikers, it is hard to see another central midfielder signing with nobody leaving the club.Meanwhile, defender Ryan Leonard is believed to be close to agreeing a deal with Southend. The right-back scored Southend’s equaliser in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw, his third goal in five pre-season friendlies.
