A SHORT trip to Dagenham in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy provides an opportunity for Southend to continue their winning run – but Paul Sturrock wants to give some game time to some of those who have missed out in recent weeks.
Blues found themselves in the luxurious position of being able to name the likes of Ryan Hall, Anthony Grant and Bilel Mohsni on the substitutes bench for Friday night’s impressive victory over Shrewsbury, and all three may have an opportunity at Victoria Road tonight.
Others waiting in the wings are striker Blair Sturrock, impressive youth-teamer Marlon Agawakya, defender Luke Prosser and the recently returned Merrick James-Lewis, who made his Southend debut as a substitute during the 4-0 win at Rotherham last month. Harry Crawford has been training with Dagenham so is unlikely to feature.
One familiar face who will be welcomed onto the pitch, as ever, is ex-Southend skipper Kevin Maher. The Irishman, who spent ten years with Blues, could make his debut for the Daggers tonight and is sure to get a warm reception from Shrimpers fans.
