CENTRE back Pat Baldwin has joined Southend on a free transfer until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old played 242 times for the club’s bitter Essex rivals Colchester during a nine year spell, but a successful loan spell at Roots Hall in 2009/10 won the Shrimpers fans over.
With first-team opportunities lacking at the Care in the Community Stadium this season, Baldwin has opted to join Blues on a free transfer, with Colchester paying up his contract.
The commanding former Chelsea player played 18 times for Southend during their relegation season from League One, captaining the side on one occasion.
He will be in contention for Tuesday’s match with Swindon, and could start as Mark Phillips is struggling with a groin injury.
