New signing Julian Bennett ruptures his cruciate ligament on debut

A SCAN has revealed new signing Julian Bennett will be out for at least six months.
The 28-year-old former Forest and Wednesday man was shoved into the advertising hoardings by Yeovil’s matchwinner Kevin Dawson on Tuesday, rupturing his cruciate ligament.
It was Bennett’s first start for Southend, and he had been at the club less than a week.
The defender has had bad luck with injuries, but fortunately his latest setback is unconnected to the injury he suffered in 2009/10 which kept him out for 14 months.
Phil Brown will now have to step up his search for a new defender, with former west ham youngster Eoin Wearen thought to be a possible target.
